VšĮ “NEON REALISM” has been awarded EUR 335,099 in funding for the implementation of Project No. 06-014-K-0043 “Black Boxes: Preserved/Hidden” under the 2021–2030 Development Programme of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, Progress Measure No. 08-001-01-09-01 “Development of the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI), Promoting Competitiveness and the Creation of Added Value.” The total value of the project is EUR 550,697.
During the implementation of the project, an innovative, sustainable, world-class cultural platform will be created: the interactive “Black Boxes” installation and virtual archive. These will provide migrants with a safe and ethical space in which to reflect on their experiences and identity through meaningful objects, while offering society an opportunity to understand the phenomenon of migration empathetically and directly through personal stories. In doing so, the project will help reduce cultural exclusion, strengthen social cohesion, and create new, innovative exhibition models for Lithuania’s cultural sector.
A total of 40 interactive “Black Boxes” — table-safes will be created, displaying migrants’ objects and their micro-histories. Aesthetically transformed into sculptures, these museum table-safes will reshape public perceptions of migration and create social value for society.
The project began in January 2026 and will be completed by December 2027.
The project is co-funded by the European Union.
